General Information

The Nigerian Actuarial Journal publishes original research papers, review articles, and short communications covering all aspects of management sciences and related disciplines. Manuscripts should be written in clear, concise English and must not have been published or submitted for publication elsewhere.

Types of Papers

  • Original Research Papers: These are comprehensive reports of significant research findings. Papers should be no longer than 20 pages, including tables, figures, and references.
  • Review Articles: These are critical evaluations of existing knowledge in a specific field. Reviews should be authoritative, comprehensive, and not exceed 25 pages.
  • Short Communications: These are brief reports of significant findings that warrant rapid publication. Short communications should not exceed 12 pages, including tables, figures, and references.

Manuscript Preparation

Format

Manuscripts should be prepared with numbered lines, with wide margins and double line spacing throughout, including abstracts, footnotes, and references. Every page of the manuscript should be numbered.

Structure

Manuscripts should be organized in the following order:

  1. Title Page: This should include the title, author names and affiliations, and the corresponding author's contact information.
  2. Abstract: This should be a concise summary of the paper, not exceeding 250 words.
  3. Keywords: Provide 4-6 keywords that describe the content of the paper.
  4. Introduction: This should provide the background and objectives of the research.
  5. Materials and Methods: This section should provide sufficient detail to allow the work to be reproduced.
  6. Results: Results should be clear and concise.
  7. Discussion: This should explore the significance of the results.
  8. Conclusion: The main conclusions of the study may be presented.
  9. Acknowledgments: List here those individuals who provided help during the research.
  10. References: Follow the reference style as outlined below.

Tables and Figures

Tables and figures should be numbered consecutively and submitted on separate pages. Each table and figure should have a descriptive title. Ensure all tables and figures are cited in the text.

References

The Nigerian Actuarial Journal uses the APA citation style. References should be arranged alphabetically by author's surname.

Submission Process

Manuscripts must be submitted electronically through our online submission system. The submission process involves the following steps:

  1. Registration: Create an account on our online submission system if you don't already have one.
  2. Initial Submission: Submit your manuscript as a single PDF file including all text, tables, and figures.
  3. Editorial Review: The editor will conduct an initial review to ensure the manuscript meets the journal's scope and basic requirements.
  4. Peer Review: If the manuscript passes the initial review, it will be sent for double-blind peer review.
  5. Decision: Based on the peer reviews, the editor will make a decision to accept, request revisions, or reject the manuscript.
  6. Revision: If revisions are requested, you will need to submit a revised manuscript addressing the reviewers' comments.
  7. Final Acceptance: Once the manuscript is accepted, you will need to submit the final version in the appropriate format.
  8. Publication Fee: After acceptance, you will be required to pay the publication fee before your paper is published.

The Nigerian Actuarial Journal charges the following fees for manuscript submission and publication:

Payment should be made after manuscript acceptance. Instructions for payment will be provided upon acceptance of the manuscript.

Ethics in Publishing

The Nigerian Actuarial Journal is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics. Authors must ensure that their work:

  • Has not been published or submitted elsewhere
  • Is original and does not contain plagiarized material
  • Has appropriate attribution for all cited sources
  • Has received appropriate ethical approval for any research involving humans or animals
  • Does not contain any fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements

Any cases of ethical misconduct will be dealt with seriously, and may result in the retraction of published articles.
